This item consists primarily of copies of correspondence, minutes and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay. It is the second in a series of eight items on affairs of the Persian Gulph [Gulf] (the others are IOR/F/4/988/27714*, IOR/F/4/989/27716* and 27717*, IOR/F/4/990/27718* and 27719*, and IOR/F/4/27720* and 27721*). The main correspondents are the Government of Bombay and the Residents in the Persian Gulph [John Macleod, subsequently Ephraim Gerrish Stannus].
The item concerns:
- Disputes between the Shaikh of Bahrein [Bahrain], Abdullah bin Hamed [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Aḥmad Āl Khalīfah] and Rama bin Jauber [Shaikh Raḥmah bin Jābir Āl Jalāhimah]
- The actions of Sultan bin Sugger [Shaikh Sulṭān I bin Ṣaqr al-Qāsimī, ruler of Ra's al-Khaymah and Sharjah] including possible acts of piracy
- Relations between the Shaikh of Bushire, Abdul Rassool Khan [Shaikh of Būshehr, ‘Abd al-Rasūl Khān Āl Mazkūr] and the Prince of Shiraz [Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā Farmānfarmā]
- Stannus’s observations of the relations between states on his tour of the Persian Gulf in 1823
- The war between Tannoon [Shaikh Tahnun bin Shakhbut Āl Nahyān] and Mahomed bin Shakhboot [Muḥammad bin Shakhbut Āl Nahyān] over Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi]
- The accusation that Mīrzā Hassan, the Persian writer at the Bushire Residency, murdered his wife, including reports of witness statements.
