This item consists of copies of correspondence, minutes and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, political and secret letters from the governments of Bombay and Bengal. It is the sixth in a series of eight items on affairs of the Persian Gulph [Gulf] (the others are IOR/F/4/988/27714* and 27715*, IOR/F/4/989/27716* and 27717*, IOR/F/4/990/27718*, and IOR/F/4/27720* and 27721*). The main correspondents are the Government of Bombay and Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Political Resident in the Persian Gulph.
The item concerns:
- A dispute between Bahrein [Bahrain] and Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi] over some of Sheikh Tanoon’s [Shaikh Tahnun bin Shakhbut Āl Nahyān, Shaikh of Abu Dhabi] subjects fleeing to Bidda [Al Bidda], where Shaikh Abdoolla bin Ahmeed [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Aḥmad Āl Khalīfah] gave some of them asylum
- A dispute between the Imaum [Imam] of Muscat [Sayyid Sa‘īd bin Sulṭān Āl Bū Sa‘īd] and the Shaikh of Bushire [Būshehr], Abdool Roussel Khan [‘Abd al-Rasūl Khān Āl Mazkūr], which led to the Imaum of Muscat threatening to attack Bushire, and the Prince of Shirauz [Prince-Governor of Fārs, Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā Farmānfarmā] threatening to destroy Muscat; the Imaum of Muscat's capture of the ship Nussaret Shah from Bushire; and the Imaum's eventual capture of Abdool Roussel Khan
- A shipwreck which occurred off the coast of Dashtee [Dashti] where the cargo was plundered by the inhabitants of the coast, and the question of whether the ship owner should be compensated by Persia
- A claim by the Imaum of Muscat that Bussora [Basra] owed him tribute, and his subsequent plan to blockade the port
- Money owed to the Surat merchants who traded at Senna [Ṣanʻā]
- A dispute between Sooltan bin Suggur [Shaikh Sulṭān I bin Ṣaqr al-Qāsimī, Shaikh of Sharjah] and Sheikh Tanoon over the evacuation of Derah [Deira].
