This item consists primarily of copies of correspondence, minutes and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, political and secret letters from the governments of Bombay and Bengal. It is the seventh in a series of eight items on affairs of the Persian Gulph [Gulf] (the others are IOR/F/4/988/27714* and 27715*, IOR/F/4/989/27716* and 27717*, IOR/F/4/990/27718* and 27719*, and IOR/F/4/27721*). The main correspondents are the Government of Bombay and Lieutenant-Colonel Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulph.
The item concerns:
- A revolution in Bushire [Bushēhr], when Shaikh Ahmeed bin Khamis [Aḥmad bin Khamīs Āl Mazkūr] seized control; after a counter-revolution, shaikhs Hoossein and Nassir [Ḥusayn Khān Āl Mazkūr and Nāṣir II Āl Mazkūr] regained control
- Stannus’s resignation as Resident in the Persian Gulf, and his replacement by Captain David Wilson
- A discussion of the advisability of appointing military officials to civil positions, including Wilson’s appointment, and a list of positions to be abolished as a result
- A description of the death of Rama bin Jauber [Shaikh Raḥmah bin Jābir Āl Jalāhimah]
- The blockade of Bussorah [Basra] by the Imaum of Muscat [Imam of Muscat, Sayyid Sa‘īd bin Sulṭān Āl Bū Sa’īd]
- Discussions between the Imaum of Muscat and Sheikh Tanoon of Aboothabee [Shaikh Tahnun bin Shakhbut Āl Nahyān] about the destruction of the fortifications at Derah [Deira] which they had both previously agreed to undertake.
