This item consists primarily of copies of correspondence, minutes and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay. It is the eighth in a series of eight items on affairs of the Persian Gulph [Gulf] (the others are IOR/F/4/988/27714* and 27715*, IOR/F/4/989/27716* and 27717*, IOR/F/4/990/27718* and 27719*, and IOR/F/4/27720*). The main correspondents are the Government of Bombay and Resident in the Persian Gulf, Lieutenant-Colonel Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, subsequently Captain David Wilson.
The item concerns:
- The aftermath of the revolution and subsequent counter-revolution in Bushire [Bushēhr], including Stannus’s complaints about the threatened attack on the Residency
- The release of Abdool Roussel Khan [‘Abd al-Rasūl Khān Āl Mazkūr] from the custody of the Imaum of Muscat [Imam of Muscat, Sayyid Sa‘īd bin Sulṭān Āl Bū Sa‘īd]
- Complaints by Sooltan bin Suggur [Shaikh Sulṭān I bin Ṣaqr al-Qāsimī] against Sheikh Tanoon [Shaikh Tahnun bin Shakhbut Āl Nahyān] and hostilities between the two, principally over the destruction of the fort at Derah [Deira] and Tanoon’s control of Debaye [Dubai]
- Piracy at Kongoon [Kāngān]
- The attempted recovery of a debt from six Jewish bankers at Bushire by Abbas Mirza ['Abbās Mīrzā, Nāyib al-Salṭana Qājār], including the Residency Shroff [banker], and the Resident’s refusal to allow the Shroff to be taken to Shirauz [Shiraz].
