The item consists of copies and extracts of correspondence, minutes and resolutions cited in, or enclosed with, letters from the Government of Bombay and the East India Company Court of Directors. The item relates to requests for compensation by Dr John McNeill following the cancellation of his appointment as Resident at Bushire [Būshehr]. In particular, the item refers to the reasons for the cancellation and the extent to which the Government of Bombay should take responsibility for McNeill's expenses and losses, which are detailed in the correspondence. Discussion around the question of whether the Resident post should be held by a Military Servant or a Civil Servant is also included.
