This item consists of copies of correspondence, consultations, memoranda, resolutions, and minutes cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay [Mumbai]. The main correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Major John Morison, Resident in the Persian Gulf; Thomas MacKenzie, civil surgeon in charge of the Residency at Bushire [Bushehr]; Captain John Pepper, Senior Officer of the Indian Navy in the Persian Gulf; and Captain Samuel Hennell, Acting and Assistant Resident in the Persian Gulf. It is the second in a series of ten items on the Persian Gulf (the others are IOR/F/4/1767/72461, IOR/F/4/1767/72463, IOR/F/4/1767/72464, IOR/F/4/1767/72465, IOR/F/4/1767/72466, IOR/F/4/1767/72467, IOR/F/4/1767/72468, IOR/F/4/72469, and IOR/F/4/1767/72470).
The item concerns arrangements for Shaik Khuleefa bin Shakboot of Aboothabee [Shaikh Khalifah bin Shakhbut Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi] to compensate the British for the loss of the cargo of the Duria Dowlat [Darya Dowlat], which was robbed by the Beniyas [Bani Yas]. The item includes details of the cargo lost and the purchase of a bagla [baghlah] by the Shaikh of Kishm [Qeshm], Abdul Rahman [Shaikh ‘Abd al-Rahman bin Saghar Al Mu’ini] from Shaik Khuleefa bin Shakboot.
