Extract Public Letter to Court of Directors from Government of Bengal, 7 Jun 1841:
- presentation by Captain G. B. Tremenheere of the Engineers to the Government of two cases of ‘Arunda Aremaria’,
- whose properties he describes as preventing the drifting of sand
- as this is not a problem from which Bengal suffers, and the plant will not thrive in the climate,
- under Wallich’s recommendation, ordered that the two cases be forwarded to Agra, where they will be experimentally planted under the Superintendent of the Botanical Garden there

- the Governor has ordered copy of letter of 24 Dec 1840 to be sent to Wallich, and
- suggests that Tremenheere sends plants to Wallich to take care of them and consider how they should be used

- refers to accompanying correspondence relating to Arunda Aremaria brought by Tremenheere from England,
- which he has been requested to place in the Botanic Garden until it can be determined after Wallich’s report how they might best be deployed

Letter to G. A. Bushby from Wallich, 5 Jan 1841
- Wallich has received the cases of the reed (Arunda Aremaria)
- Wallich highlights problems of growing the reed in the tropics where the heat is great, although recognises the potential uses alluded to by Captain Tremenheere;
- suggests sending boxes to Dr. Falconer, Superintendent of the Botanical Garden at Saharunpore
- also says that there is a grass which already grows around the Hoogly and other rivers which helps to bind the sand there
- refers to properties of sample of grass
Ordered that the following letter be written to Superintendent of the Company’s Botanical Garden.
Letter to Wallich from G. A. Bushby, 27 Jan 1841
- requests that Wallich forwards the reeds (Arunda Aremaria) to Agra, where they will be experimentally planted by the Superintendent of the Garden Establishment there
Ordered that copies of foregoing letter from Wallich, correspondence noted in margin, be transmitted to Secretary to the Government of the North Western Provinces for the information of the Lieutenant Governor.
Extract Bengal Public Proceedings 17 Feb 1841:
Letter to G. A. Bushby from Wallich, 17 Feb 1841
- requests order to support transportation of one of the two little boxes of sand reed on board the next Government Steamer for Allanhabad
Ordered that [above request] & requisite intimation sent to Wallich.
Secretary reports that on 13 and 15 Feb 1841 the packet to the address of the Court of Directors as noted in the margin were transmitted to the Chief Secretary to the Government of Bombay with a request that they be forwarded to their destination.
