Origin: England (? the Benedictine abbey of St Mary, Abingdon): like the B-text of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, the C-text has been associated with Abingdon because Abingdon is mentioned in the entry for 977; however, this evidence is circumstantial.
Provenance:
Lines added in late 11th or early 12th century (f. 164r).
Robert Recorde (b. c.1512, d. 1558), mathematician: copied in Cambridge, Corpus Christi College, MS 138.
Robert Talbot (b. c. 1505, d. 1558), antiquary: inscribed in his hand (f. 3r, etc); loaned to John Leland.
John Leland (b. c.1503, d. 1552), poet and antiquary: borrowed; copied in his Collectanea, Cotton Julius C VI, f. 99v.
Laurence Nowell (b. 1530, d. c.1570), antiquary: copied extracts in Add MS 43704, ff. 94r-107v.
