Origin: England.
Provenance:
An unidentified 15th-century English patron: the miniature on f. 150r displays a man and woman kneeling before St Ursinus of Bourges, wearing heraldic gowns and accompanied by coats of arms; the entire section of Middle English and Latin prayers was probably part of a devotional manuscript that was commissioned by them. The coat of arms (discoloured and partially faded) of the male patron (quarterly, 1st and 4th, (?) azure [or sable], on a chevron argent; 2nd and 3rd, gules, on a chevron (?) argent [or or]) remains unidentified; that of the woman (vair a fess gules) was previously unidentified [not in Title, The Early Records (2003), p. 106], but is undoubtedly that of the baronial Marmion family of Tamworth (Staffordshire), Winteringham (Lincolnshire) and Torrington.
