The original part was written in the mid-11th century, in Germany, by two different scribes (ff. 43-77, 143, 152-171-180-199). In England, the manuscript was enlarged by eight quires (ff. 89-151), written between 1070 and 1100, first in Sherborne and then in Salisbury, where the bishop's seat was transferred in 1078. The manuscript was also enriched by several scibes in blank spaces and by the addition of four bifolia (ff. 78-85) (see Ker, 'Three Old English Texts' (1959)).
The Benedictine abbey of St Mary the Virgin, Sherborne: cited in the profession 'Ego frater N sacerdos vel diaconus promitto stabilitatem et conversionem morum meorum et oboedientiam secundam regulam sancti Benedicti coram deo et sanctis eius in hoc monasterio quod est constructum in honore sancte Marie de Scyreburnia et in presentia domni N. episcopi' (f. 93v); '[...] electus abbas profiteer Sancte Seriberiensi' (f. 112v); added, last quarter of the 11th century: 'Interrogatio: Vis Sancte Matri ecclesie Seribiensi' (f. 112v).
The Cathedral church of St Mary the Virgin, Salisbury: the Litany of saints (ff. 203r-v); homilies related to Salisbury (ff. 109r-111v, 200r-202r) (see Ker, 'Three Old English Texts' (1959)).
