- Cotton MS Otho A VI, ff 1–129
- Title:
- Old English translation of Boethius's De Consolatione Philosophiae
- Scope & Content:
-
This is the only surviving copy of the Old English prose and verse translation of Boethius's Consolation of Philosophy, with alternating sections in prose and verse. Parts of the text that are now damaged were recorded in Junius's notebook (Oxford, Bodleian Library, Junius 12). Both this manuscript and a manuscript that contains a prose translation (Oxford, Bodleian Library, Bodley 180) have prefaces that claim that King Alfred the Great (d. 899) was the translator. This attribution has been doubted (see Godden and Irvine, The Old English Boethius (2009), pp. 8, 140-51).

ff. 1r-129v: Boethius, De Consolatione Philosophiae (Consolation of Philosophy).
