Title:

Peter of Poitiers, Compendium in Genealogia Christi

Scope & Content:

These folios contain a fragment of the Compendium in Genealogia Christi by Peter of Poitier (b. c. 1130, d. 1205), ending with a diagram of Jesus, his apostles, Paul and Barnabas. These folios were copied in the late 12th or early 13th century. Chapter titles pertaining to Macer's De viribus herbarum (On Properties of Plants) appear on f. 10v and have been glossed in Old English. These folios may have originally formed the end of a copy of Macer's De viribus herbarum, judging from the increasing size of the wormholes (Ker, Catalogue of Manuscripts containing Anglo-Saxon, p. 283). Alternatively, the headings from Macer's De viribus may have been added after these folios were bound to the herbal in ff. 11r-85v (D'Aronco and Cameron, Old English Illustrated Pharmacopoeia, p. 18).
