These texts, copied in the last quarter of the 12th century at Rievaulx Abbey, originally formed one manuscript with the folios now contained in Royal MS 6 C VIII. The texts contained in Cotton MS Vitellius C VIII include:
f. 4r: the last words of the closing rubric of Orosius, Historia Adversus Paganos (The History against the Pagans).
ff. 4r–5v: Peter Abelard, Versus ad Astralabium Filium Suum (Poem for his Son Astrolabe).
ff. 6r-v: a fragment of Dares Phrygius, De Excidio Troiae Historia (The History About the Fall of Troy) (also called De Bello Troiano).
ff. 6v–21v: Chronicle of England (Cronica de Anglia) (Chronicle about England), AD 162–1121 (imperfect).
Decoration: Large initial in red with geometric decoration (f. 6v). Initial in blue, red or green (f. 4r, 6r-20r). Rubrics and headings in red (ff. 4r, 5v, 6v-20r). Numbers in red (f. 5v).

Provenance:
This part of the manuscript may have been produced at the Cistercian Abbey of St Mary, Rievaulx, based on script and decoration; see Hayward, 'Cronica' (2015), pp. 164-65).
The Cistercian Abbey of St Mary, Rievaulx : included in its library catalogue of 1190-1200 (Cambridge, Jesus College, MS 34, ff. 1r-5r; see Bell, Libraries of the Cistercians (1992), no. Z19.119). These folios originally formed one volume with Royal MS 6 C VIII, which includes a 13th- or 14th-century ownership inscription from Rievaulx (f. 1r).
Henry Savile of Banke, Yorkshire (b. 1568, d. 1617), collector of manuscripts: his shorthand inscription, 'Netlton Hnry Savil' (Royal MS 6 C VIII, f. 1); listed in the catalogue of his library (Harley MS 1879, f. 1 and Add MS 35213, ff. 5-32, where it is the second entry).
