Letter from the Government of India to the Court of Directors of the East India Company, dated the 8th March 1843, regarding the teak forests of India.
Extract from Marine letter, No.16 of 1841, from the Government of India, Dated the 27th October 1841, submitting their further correspondence with the Government of Fort St George respecting the teak forests and the measures adopted by that Government for preserving and perpetuating a supply of timber.
Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Melvill, Secretary to Government of Bombay, to the Secretary to Government of India, dated the 13th April 1842, enclosing copies of proceedings relative to the northern forests of Gujarat. The proceedings include letters from the Commissioners of Surat to the Officiating Chief Secretary to Government of Bombay, dated the 15th January 1842 and the 11th February 1842, regarding the best mode of securing direct supplies of teak timber from the northern forests; a memorandum by Mr Boyce, Government Timber Agent at Surat, on his mission to conclude an agreement with Raja Udi Singh, principal Raja in the Dang Garvi District, with appendices; correspondence regarding the success of Mr Boyce in obtaining a tender of the Peepree Forests from the proprietors; and a letter from Captain R Oliver, Superintendent of the Indian Navy, to G W Anderson, Governor of Bombay, dated 23rd March 1842, reporting on the advantages or otherwise to be derived from the direct control of the northern forests and the proprietary right of the wood being in the hands of Government, and on the matter of detail, Establishment, etc, proposed by the Commissioners and Mr Boyce.
Correspondence regarding the arrangement concluded by Mr Boyce, Government Timber Agent at Surat, with the proprietors of the Rambaj Forests for securing to Government the right to all timber in them and to the usual fees leviable thereon; and including the substance of a proposed Treaty between the Hon'ble East India Company and the Proprietors of the Rambaj Forest, dated 25th May 1842.
Correspondence regarding disbursements made by Mr Boyce, Government Timber Agent at Surat, in the Forest Department, and an application by him for the appointment of an additional English writer.
