No 216
Letter to Lieutenant Colonel William Casement, Secretary to Government in the Military Department, from J. Adam, Secretary to the Medical Board, 14 Mar 1826:
- acknowledges receipt of letter dated 3 Mar 1826, in which the Governor General enquires about quantity of ground to be allotted to the Medical Garden, and whether or not the required workforce could be supplied from the very large establishment attached to the Calcutta Botanic Garden
- In response, the Board would observe that the exact quantity of ground cannot currently be ascertained. Wallich says that an unspecified amount of land can be set aside. However the current work of the Botanic Garden requires the entire existing workforce, so the proposed Medical Garden would require extra workers. The list of extra workers that Wallich compiled was included in a letter from the Board of 23 Feb 1826.
- If the Government considers the proposed number of extra workers to be too much, the Board would beg to suggest that one half be granted in the mean time, and the rest appointed if the experiment proves a success.
