The collection includes a copy of the following Public letters received from India:
- No.17 of 1870, dated 15 February 1870
- No.23 of 1870, dated 1 March 1870
- No.69 of 1870, dated 17 June 1870
- No.85 of 1870, dated 29 July 1870
- No.87 of 1870, dated 5 August 1870.
The collection contains papers regarding the arrangements made for taking casts of the Sanchi Tope Gateway by Lieutenant H H Cole of the Archaeological Survey, the number of copies required by the Science and Art Department of the Council of Education, arrangements regarding expenditure, whether the Science and Art Department wished to have casts of the Kootub [Qutb] Pillars and some structures at Fatehpur Sikri, and copies of casts to be presented to the Government of France.
The collection also includes:
- correspondence relating to photographs of the Temple of Julpesh [Jalpesh], taken by Dr S C McLeod, Civil Assistant Surgeon of Julpigoree [Jalpaiguri] (photographs not in the file, but does include two illustrations of the temple)
- correspondence relating to photographs by Major Gill of Jain, Bhuddist, and other ruins in the Buldana District in West Berar (photographs not included in the file)
- correspondence relating to photographs of the tower at Pandua, the Tribani [Tribeni] Temple and the mosque adjoining the Temple in Hooghly, in the Burdwan Division of the Bengal Presidency (photographs not included in the file), with a short history of these architectural remains by the Magistrate of Hooghly
- a copy of the Convention for promoting universally reproductions of Works of Art for the benefit of Museums of all countries.
