Euclidean Geometry in Latin attributed to Boethius.
- Scope & Content:
-
Contents:
This geometrical compilation was one of the fundamental textbook in geometry until the translation of Euclid's Elements. It was composed in the first half of the 11th century from several sources. During the Middle Ages it was attributed to Boethius, that is why since the edition of Menson Folkkerts, it is referred as Ps. Boethius Geometry II (see Menso Folkerts, 1970). The author of this compilation remained unknown. Geometry II consists in two books covering Euclidean excerpts borrowed to Geometry I (which contained a translation of some definitions and proofs of the first book of the Elements), calculation referring to the abacus tablet(a table with columns dedicated to calculation), practical geometrical problems are also dealt with the agrimensores'streatises.
