The album contains 42 loose photographic reproductions (mounted on a board) of watercolour sketches and washes made by Sir Edward Law Durand while attached to the Afghan Boundary Commission between 1884 and 1886. There is also a printed list of photographs taken during the progress of the Afghan Boundary Commission (2 folios), and a handwritten note on Durand’s drawings (1 folio).
The following is a list of the captions with each photograph. Information in square brackets [] is taken from Mildred Archer, British Drawings in the India Office Library, volume I, (HMSO: London, 1969), pp.170-182. The numbers refer to the number given to each photograph, usually bottom right corner of the board (for numbers 41 to 92 see IOR/L/PS/20/B178/3-4):
