Expositiones vocabulorum Bibliae, attributed to William Brito, edited in L. W. and B. A. Daly, Summa Britonis sive Guillelmi Britonis Expositiones Vocabulorum Biblie (Padua, 1975; Thesaurus Mundi, 15, 16). It is an early copy of the Expositiones which were completed between 1250 and 1270 and circulated widely by 1272 with the centre of the distribution in Paris (see Summa Britonis, esp. I, pp. xiv, xxiii, xxxvi).
Also includes an added medical note (f. 64, lower margin) relating to sexual intercourse and menstruation; Incipit: 'De coitu tempore menstruali notavit Hugucio dist. .v. ad eius quod tam mulier quam vir / qui exigit debitum tempore menstruali', explicit: 'eorum redarguantur de parvulis'.
Decoration:
Puzzle initials (3-14 lines) in alternating red and blue with contrasting penwork decoration extending into the margins, in particular on f. 2r. Initials and paragraph marks in alternating blue and red; with guide-letters in the margins.
