3. "Cartæ quædam transeriptæ ex archivis Denzelli Holles filii junioris prænobilis domini Johannis Comitis de Clare, 1637." fo. 1. These consist of various charters, &c. relating to the families of Denzell, Frescheville, Gainsford, Holles, Kingston, Musard, Skewys, and Trenewyth. Among which, at fo. 58, is "the speech of Gervas Holles, 1641, against the Scots propositions, for which he was suspended the House of Commons;" and at fo. 105 sundry extracts from Domesday-book. Since the formation of this catalogue, another volume of these collections has been presented to the British Museum by the Right Honourable Sir Joseph Banks, Bart. It is intitled "Trusbut," and in it Mr. Holles has entered the names of the persons who transcribed the contents. These were, 1. Richard Guppy "serviens Gervas. Holles." 2. Gervase Holles himself. 3. William Holies "consanguineus Gerv. Holles." 4. Jonathan Cray "serviens Gerv. Holles," whom he has handled very roughly in vol. II. art. 1. In a volume of royal letters preserved in this collection (which will Ode hereafter described) there are three written by King Charles II. relating to Mr. Holles. Some account of this getleman may be found in Wood's Athenæ Oxonienses II. Fasti, 17. edit. 1721. See Hearne's Annales de Trokelowe, pp. xii & 275; and Collins's history of the Newcastle family, p. 71. In a satirical list of members of parliament temp. Car. II. contained in another Lansdowne manuscript, is the following article:-
"Jervas Holies, member for Lincoln, a pensioner at Court and two places there."
