54. "This is the book of governaunce of Kynges and Prynces. A long poem in stanzas of 7 lines. It is a translation of Aristotle's "Secreta Secretorum, vel Liber de Regimine Regum," sometimes called in English, " The Booke of all good thewes." Beg. "Cod Almyghty save and conferme our Kyng." fo. 155. Lydgate the translator did not live to complete the work, which was afterwards taken up by Benedict Burgh, a Canon of St. Stephen's Westminster, whose part in this manuscript begins at fo. 179 b. It must not be confounded with a similar performance by Thomas Hoccleve. For transcribing this work Ebesham was paid at the rate of a penny per leaf.
