Cotton, Vol 1: correspondence covering a wide range of subjects relating to the cultivation of cotton in the Madras Presidency.
The collection includes:
- lists of stores received for the use of the American cotton planters on the Government experimental cotton farms, with statements of the expenses incurred on account of the experimental cotton farms in Coimbatore, for November 1842 to January 1843
- Notes on American cotton agriculture as practiced on the Government cotton farms in Coimbatore, by Robert Wight, Superintendent of Cotton Farms, Coimbatore, dated 1st February 1843, with a tabular statement showing the amount of hired labour employed on the Government experimental cotton farms in Coimbatore from 1st June 1842 to the 31st January 1843 (pp.103-159)
