Medicina de quadrupedibus. The text consists of the Old English translations of three separate Latin compilations that date from the 5th century.
1. ff. 44v-45v: De taxone liber (c. 8 recipes). Prologue 'Þe Egypta king ['rexe / king/ rex' added in the margin] þe idpartus wæs hatan / Octaviano þan casere hys frunde hœlo', incipit: 'Sum nyten ws þt man nemned / taxonem', explicit: 'sona he byð gebeted'. Preceded by a partially erased and almost illegible rubric. Listed in L. E. Voigts and P. D. Kurtz, Scientific and Medical Writings in Old and Middle English: An Electronic Reference, CD-ROM, 2nd ed. (Ann Arbor, MI, 2006), no. 183.00.
2. ff. 45v-46. De moro (3 recipes). Imperfect. A treatise on the healing powers of the mulberry. Incipit: 'Wið blodes / flewsan þanne mona sy seofontyne nyhta eald / æfter sunna setl gange', [with marginal rubric almost completely erased and illegible], explicit: 'þanne byð heo geclænsod'. Listed in Voigt and Kurtz 2006, no. 210.00.
3. ff. 45v-51r. Liber medicinae ex animalibus attributed to Sextus Placitus, Imperfect. The short version (A-version) of the treatise is imperfect and deals with only twelve animals. Rubric 'Medicina de cervo', incipit:'Wiþ nædran slite h\e/ortes horn hafeð / mægen', explicit: 'gedeon toðreomera / swylas gedwæsceþ'. Listed in Voigt and Kurtz 2006, no. 222.00.
Other copies are Cotton MS Vitellius C.III (ff. 75r-82v), Harley MS 585 (ff. 101v-114v; imperfect), and Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Hatton 76 (ff. 124v-130r). For the text see Cockayne 1864-66; Delcourt 1914; De Vriend 1984.
Also includes a collection of medical recipes:
1. f. 51r: Rubric 'Ad dolorem capitis', incipit: 'Wið eafodece pollege þæt on englis dywrege dwolle wulle', explicit: 'and smyre þæt haefod mid'. Listed in Voigt and Kurtz 2006, no. 215.00.
2. f. 51v: c. seven herbal recipes in Old English and three others in Latin. Rubric 'De beta', incipit 'Wið ealda and singalum heafodece cnuca / þa wurd þat bete hatað, expl. 'and unget / nares and statim sedabitur'. Listed in Voigt and Kurtz 2006, no. 217.00.
