[ff 1–19] extracts from Proceedings of the Revenue Department of the North Western Provinces between February and July 1851, mainly re discharge of an elderly Chinese tea manufacturer, Dawa Saw, at Pooree: free passage to Canton granted to him, and Ajeen, another tea manufacturer, permitted to accompany him. [ff 21-59] Correspondence between W Jameson, Superintendent of the Saharanpur Botanic Gardens, and R Thornton, Secretary to the Government of the North Western Provinces, between January and July 1851, enclosing statements showing lands (including lists of villages) occupied by government tea plantations in Kumaon, West Gurwal and Paoree [ff 50-53], and statements of the land occupied by the Botanic Gardens. Includes [f 45] colour plan of the plantation at Paoree and [ff 46-49] correspondence from I Forsyth, Secretary to the Medical Board, Government of India, to W Jameson, requesting medical plants. [ff 57-59] W Jameson to R Thornton enclosing colour plan of the Saharanpur Botanic Gardens, drawing attention to area where medicinal plants cultivated. [f 61-69] Itemised accounts of expenses incurred in running the tea plantations in Kumaon, West Gurwal and Paoree. [ff 71-95v] Extracts from Proceedings of Revenue Department of North Western Provinces for March 1851 re the journey of Robert Fortune from China to Allahabad and thence to Agra: includes copy-letters from Fortune to Government of India detailing expenses and equipment, [ff 81-83] copy-contract between Fortune and his contractor, Wang–tih Poon, naming the Chinese tea manufacturers accompanying him, [ff 83-91] copy-contract between Robert Fortune and East India Company; [ff 92-95] correspondence from R Thornton to W Jameson requesting Jameson to instruct Fortune on arrival at Saharanpur as to where tea manufacturers to be deployed, and to make necessary arrangements.
