Letter from John Ellerton Stocks dated 12 October 1852 at Dapuri Botanic Garden enclosing lists of plants (including from Hewra) for ‘forthcoming Exhibition of Indian Products’ to the Court of Directors. Lists (No 8522). List 1: Plants including drugs grown in Hewra botanic garden and manufactured in the Hewra laboratory; includes aloes, henbane, dandelion and senna; extracts procured including castor oil, groundnut oil; products including colocynth, henbane and dandelion for use in hospitals; more generally, arnotto [annatto], bird pepper, Nepal pepper, madder and Indian hemp; sugar is also made. List 2 Trees in Scinde [Sind] Woods. List 3: silk, cotton and wool. Note that 1 is funded however 2 and 3 funded personally by Stocks, and that it is for the Court to dispose of everything. Acknowledges contribution of Forest Ranger in Scinder [Sind]. No 8523: Minute dated 23 October 1852 by D.A. Blane and A. Bell about two boxes with copy of these papers to be forwarded to the Court and Dr J.E. Stocks to be informed. No 8524: Letter dated 3 November 1852 to Stocks from J.G. Lumsden, Secretary to Government informing him that the two boxes sent by him will go to the Court of Directors by the next mail.
