John Lydgate, Siege of Thebes, rubric: 'In this preambile shortly is comprihendid a mery conseyte of John Lydgate monke of Bury declarynge how he aionyde þe sege of Thebes to the mery tallys of Caunterburye'; prologue, incipit: 'Whan bright Phebus passyd was þe ram Mid of Aprile and in the bulle cam'; text incipit: 'Sirs, quod I, sith of youre curtesye I enterde am in to youre companye'; explicit: 'And joye etemall when we hens wende. Of my tale thus I make an ende. Amen', 'Here now endeth, as ye maye see, The destruccyon of Thebes the cytee.' Imperfect, three leaves missing after f. 149, two after f. 153, one after f. 156, one after f. 157, and two after f. 159.

Decoration:
15 miniatures in colours and gold added c. 1525-1530 and attributed to Gerard or Lucas Horenbout (see Kren, McKendrick 2003 and McKendrick 2003) (ff. 148r, 151r, 153v, 154v, 157v, 158v, 159r, 160r, 160v, 161r, 161v). Added coat of arms of Percy and Lucy flanked by the initials 'HP' for Henry Percy, 4th earl of Northumberland (f. 1489), accompanied by badges of crescent and shackle-bolt, and encircled by the Garter (f. 162r). 'Champ' initials in gold on rose and blue grounds with penwork decorarton in white and marginal extensions, contemporary to the text.

f. 161v: Archangel Michael driving Lucifer and the other fallen angels from heaven.
