Contained within the papers are:
- Narratives (Nos 8 to 14) of the Proceedings of the Board of Revenue and the several Local Officers and Committees for the relief of distress arising from the scarcity of food in Orissa and in other parts of Bengal
- Weekly Narratives (Nos 7 to 12) of the Government of Bengal relating to the famine in the Lower Provinces of Bengal
- Report by Stuart Hogg, Commissioner of Police of the Town of Calcutta, regarding the measures adopted for the relief of the destitute in and about Calcutta, dated 23rd August 1866
- Correspondence regarding a letter signed "Truth", dated 26th July 1866, which appeared in the Englishman Newspaper
- Rules and forms of account in connection with the sale of rice from Government stores, and distribution by Relief Committees
The collection includes a copy of the following Public letters received from India:
- No.56 of 1866, dated 27 August 1866
- No.62 of 1866, dated 18 September 1866
- No.65 of 1866, dated 21 September 1866
The collection also includes a copy of the Despatch, No.95 of 1866, dated 9 November 1866.
There is also bound within this collection a copy of the Report on the Calcutta Cyclone of the 5th October 1864 by Lieut Col J E Gastrell and Henry F Blanford, with maps and diagrams illustrating the origin and progress of the storm and the track of the storm wave (Calcutta: O T Cutter, Military Orphan Press, 1866). The Public letter from India which accompanied this report (No.54 of 1866, dated 15 August 1866) is bound within IOR/L/PJ/3/1097 No.94.
