An interview with the General on 17 Jul. Baird Smith agrees with General Wilson that an assault would now be dangerous as they have lost too many men in Brigadier Chamberlain's two excursions. Baird Smith suggested the army should maintain its grip on Delhi until strong enough in men and material to take a decided offensive, that sick and injured, now over 1,000, should be sent away, and that the army should be stripped of all 'impedimenta'. They agreed that an attack would be made with 2,000 men, that Baird Smith was to strengthen the position and Wilson would be cautious in the use of troops during enemy attacks. Lieutenant Edward Jones Wounded.
