- Problem of honours for Abyssinian campaign; at conference with Duke of Cambridge and others, feeling was that India should be supplied with Armstrong gun from England; Northcote explains his reasons for opposing argument that native troops should not be given precision weapons 'out of jealousy', but this important question must be decided by Cabinet; no agreement on organisation of native army, though Napier thinks regiments serving at certain stations could advnatageously be given additional subaltern; Duke of Edinburgh's intention to visit India; no room in parliamentary timetable for India bills.
