- Despatch being sent to Secret Committee detailing previous transactions with Mulraj and narrating events up to present; discusses situation in Punjab; whether or not Mulraj's treason was premeditated, it has now been committed; Khalsa troops are now flocking to his standard; Currie's actions regarding movement of troops; explains his reasons for accepting advice of C-in-C (Lord Gough [in these summaries'the C-in-C' will usually be referred to as 'Gough']) not to move British troops on Multan in May; assumes no-one contemplates letting incident pass by, and as soon as he can will take measures to exact 'the national reparation which must be rendered for national wrong'; deplores every aspect of situation, 'we do not, and ought not to desire the country', but essential to eradicate 'even the semblance of successful resistance to our authority'; is feeling exhausted; if war comes in October Gough will be in despair at leaving his command.
