- Currie's failure to occupy Fort of Govindghur; offer of assistance from Nepal which will 'of course' be declined; no sign of disturbance outside Punjab; Ghulab Singh betrays no bad spirit; rumours of rising by Khalsa troops; Edwardes and Cortlandt have joined forces and face Mulraj's troops on opposite bank of Indus; if Mulraj's troops retire from swollen Indus, Edwardes wants to follow them but Currie has prudently advised him not to, and to concentrate on tranquillity and revenue of his side of river; one young Afghan chief on British side has defeated another on Mulraj's side; military preparations, and intention to minimise their cost; intends to secure reimbursement from Punjab for costs of suppressing revolt; acknowledges Hobhouse's letter of 24 April; Plumridge; Maharani's allowances to be reduced while at Benares; 'Oude and Hyderabad we must try to hang up until after this trouble in the North is over'; differing views of Bombay officials on policy towards Satara – Dalhousie is sure Supreme Govt will be against maintaining the State; is unsurprised that Currie's appointment as Resident at Lahore gives dissatisfaction but he has done his work well; promises discretion in his correspondence with former political colleagues and friends; rains every day since 1 June.
