- Acknowledges Hobhouse's letter of 24 July; inexpediency of Wellington's proposal to send Napier to assist at siege of Multan; troops concentrating before Multan with not much adverse effect on their health so far; two minor insurrections which lend credence to Currie's belief in general Sikh conspiracy; insurrection in Hazara led by Chattur Singh, and role of Capt (later General Sir James) Abbott (Commissioner) in countering, or (as Currie believes) provoking, it; Lt (later Brig-Gen John) Nicholson has seized Attock and stopped other forces from joining Chattur Singh; Currie's letters contradictory but in any case can we now ever hope to have tranquillity 'while the Sikh power is in existence?'; troops being moved quietly to frontier as support in case of need; Dalhousie's plans to move nearer the frontier so that questions of negotiation or war can be decided promptly; Satara – has written minute on general policy in such cases; has declined to forward request from ex-Raja's vakil to Baji Rao (ex–Peshwa) asking for money to carry on the case.
