- Punjab situation; has told Gough that Whish should not command increased force soon to be at Multan; other possible commanders there; wishes Gough had not used name of 'Army of the Punjab'; drought means forage and supplies are scarce – Dalhousie has told Gough if need be to take carriage and cattle intended for Governor-General's camp; complains of change of tone in despatches of Secret Committee of Court of Directors in response to transient events; asks Hobhouse's opinion on proceeding against Turton as previously proposed; misrule in Hyderabad not so bad as to justify interference – finance may bring its Government to a stand still but Resident has been told to avert crisis while Punjab situation is critical; regarding Secret Committee, Dalhousie hopes any Blue Book published in future will tell whole story.
