- Is anxiously awaiting Henry Lawrence's arrival; Bombay troops have reached Multan, and Whish has successfully attacked suburbs; Edwardes's force drove off an attack from city and were shortly to open their breaching batteries; importance of Multan falling soon to restrain Dost Muhammad from invading Peshawar province; policy towards Afghanistan should he do so; what Gough's plans are, 'or whether he has any plans at all, I am unable to tell you'; Gough now has ample supplies, and an ample force (33,000 troops, 100 guns, more than 60 pieces of siege artillery, and garrison forces for Lahore, Jullundur and elsewhere); Dalhousie outlines support provided by his administration, and indicates his agreement with widespread criticism of Gough's inactivity; has moved troops from Madras to enable an entire European corps to be at Dinapore in case needed to suppress communal disturbances of which there have been outbreaks recently at Allahabad; confiscations in Jullundur add one lakh to revenue; is halted in camp at Mukho within 3 miles of Sobraon and 50 of Lahore – receives intelligence rapidly and will probably stay there till end of campaign; PS: encloses unofficial and unconfirmed report of blowing up of Mulraj's main magazine at Multan.
