- Dalhousie's letters and despatches of 7 April received only two hours ago; despite preference that Dalhousie should have referred to home authorities, will back his actions on Punjab and believes Govt will do so too, as will majority at least of Court of Directors; supposes disposal of Koh-i-noor is according to precedent – at any rate but Queen will be pleased; mode of transfer of Ranjit Singh's dominions to British may be criticised; honours, rewards, medals, and inscriptions on regimental colours; his opinion that Multan fortress would fall quickly based on letters from Henry Lawrence and Edwardes; has just seen Russell, and read him Dalhousie's despatch which he approved so Dalhousie may consider he has full support of Govt.
