- Letter from Hobhouse to Dalhousie
- Scope & Content:
- Approves Dalhousie's courteous treatment of Gough; Gough's viscountcy and Dalhousie's marquessate announced in same Gazette; other honours including KCB for Elliot which he owes to Dalhouise; Durand's case; does not like raising Sikh regiments; Mulraj can be sent to Singapore; approves Dalhousie's treatment of Nawab of Bahawlapur; sorry Dalhousie was sent more British regiments than he wanted but after Chilianwala, he was luck not to get the whole British army with Wellington at their head; disposal of Koh-i-noor; some home critics think there are a good many Punjab Commissioners; will try to find cadetship for Angelo but 'my patronage is devoured by political friends' – thinks some Director should lend some of his on such occasions; have at last reached agreement with Bengal and Bombay Railway Companies – amount and duration of guaranteed dividend necessary to prevent abandonment of project; Turton's defalcation may be raised in Parliament; Punjab papers presented to Parliament have given great satisfaction and as yet no murmur against annexation.
