- Acknowledges Dalhousie's letters of 23 October and 7 November; thanks for sympathy on his loss; Dalhousie's measures regarding sirdars are all supported, as are those for safe keeping of Duleep Singh; Napier should have kept to himself apparent belief that there will be another Punjab insurrection; Gough's foolish letter about Punjab medal seems to be supported by Court, and Hobhouse hardly knows what to do – 'perhaps the most advisable step will be to consult the Duke of Wellington, and I shall do so'; approves Dalhousie's stance regarding Yusufzai villages; Court still hold out on Delhi question, and Hobhose regrets having so large a majority against him on matter which will be much discussed in and out of Parliament; also differs from Court on question of unchartered Banks and asks if Dalhousie still holds same views on that subject, in particular regarding prohibition on employment of Company servants as managers.
