- Refers to his own letter of 7 June; Wellington initially wished letter from Secret Committee on Napier's report on India to avoid reference to controversy between Dalhousie and Napier, but Hobhouse has persuaded him otherwise; hopes Dalhousie will be able to keep peace with Napier; Hobhouse's object has been to support Dalhousie and hopes he will find letter satisfactory; encloses comments (not present) by Wellington and Hardinge on Napier's report; Committee of Privy Council have very much altered rules of pleading in Supreme Court.
