- Acknowledges Dalhousie's letter of 25 July; Dalhousie need not have referred question of Sind prize money to home authorities who agreed entirely with him; Bombay controversy; acknowledges Dalhousie's letter of 16 August; Wellington and Napier, and former's papers on controversy over latter; Russell (Prime Minister) insists that Hobhouse consult Wellington on all military matters; Manchester men again becoming worried about cotton but a Royal Commission on question seems unlikely; possibility, next session, of a Committee on Indian affairs generally in anticipation of necessity to pass new Charter Act in 1853 – Hobhouse does not expect much change in present Act, but question will be reserved for another President of Board of Control.
