- Acknowledges Dalhousie's letter of 5 February; strongly criticises Napier's behaviour; latter has seen Wellington but not been near Broughton nor left his card with Chairman; controversy with Ellenborough over manner of disposal of jewels, and other Punjab property taken from Lahore treasury; Ellenborough's detestation of Directors; will send Dalhousie's anti-Napier commentary to Wellington and ask whether latter has seen minute to which it replies – can hardly believe Napier would venture to send latter to his C-in-C; at recent dinner given by Company, Dalhousie's health was proposed by Chairman (John Shepherd) whom Broughton hopes will be rechosen for next year; currently more Directors (six) in Commons than Broughton can ever remember.
