- Acknowledges Dalhousie's letters of 11 and 30 August, and 8 September; has forced Court of Directors to give way on minor points of Delhi question; has resisted attempt by Court to grant pension to Sikkim Raja; Currie will receive no encouragement from Broughton; Broughton's letter of 6 October has answered Dalhousie's question about Oudh: 'I will support you' [double underlining in original]; will be grateful for background information on Jotee Persaud case, especially 'anything indubitably authentic' concerning Curtis; Ellenborough 'not quite sane' regarding Indian affairs; Chairman, Deputy Chairman, and himself going to Windsor tomorrow to present Queen with selection of Lahore jewels and other articles in Great Exhibition [cf Dalhousie's letter of 14 July], some articles will be placed in Company's museum, remainder will be auctioned for benefit of Indian Treasury; is apprehensive of Jacob 'embroiling us with the Barbarians' of the Kalat frontier; Aden affairs on which Sir John Grey has written very sensible minute; Dalhousie should prevent Bombay Govt from getting at loggerheads with Wahabis about Bahrein – British should do nothing beyond putting down slave trade in Persian Gulf – he will speak to Palmerston (Foreign Secretary) to prevent any misunderstanding; papers on Bank question are before a Cabinet Committee.
