- Has received Stamfordham's letter containing the King's final commands on the subject of the playing of the National Anthem in the presence of the Governors; has sent an identical letter to three Governors detailing the occasions on which the National Anthem may be played and the conditions involved; also sends a copy to Crewe for information; glad Crewe is nominating Wynne to take over from Brereton as Government Director of Indian Railway Companies; will be glad to get rid of Kenrick; Duff's appointment, although a great surprise, has been received extremely well; has visited the Ellora Caves and is now in Hyderabad; pleased with the situation there; impressed with Salar Jung, the Nizam's young minister; comments on Nizam himself; will be going to Mysore next; still no sign of rains; has written a separate letter on the subject of Chandernagore.
