- Letter from Hardinge to Crewe
- Scope & Content:
- In camp for a few days for an elephant Keddah; Gaekwar and the removal of officials on suspicion of disloyalty; Hardinge will make enquiries to see if any officials have been dismissed at the instigation of the Government of India; agrees with Stephen about the necessity of appointing another English Barrister to the Bench, but it must be a good selection; has asked Du Boulay to write privately to Sir Harvey Adamson's Private Secretary relating to Mrs. Buchanan on the subject of the McCormick case; the Government of the United Provinces has finally issued an order banning the slaughter of cows in Ajodhya on the Id festival; there have been some more dacoities in Bengal; has sent Sir R Craddock (Home Member of Governor-General's Council) to inspect the convict establishment in the Andamans which Hardinge suspects is in an unsatisfactory state and an anachronism.
