- Back in Delhi; sending Crewe a despatch on separation of judicial and executive functions, a subject which Hardinge would like buried – if solved as Congress would like it would create worst possible ill feeling in Civil Service; Royal Commission on Indian Public Services has left for Calcutta; Hardinge amused at Ramsay Macdonald's current extreme anti-Indian phase; Maud Allan has given one performance in Bombay; Gokhale's views on the South African situation; encloses copy of a note that Gokhale sent Hardinge; very strong feeling throughout India over the treatment of Indians in South Africa; Committee of Enquiry into the grievances of Indians in Natal; hopes the enquiry will not be a sham one; importance of appointing a British Resident in Lhasa; New Delhi city progressing well and Hardinge pleased with the Architects' plans; first Budget produced by Sir W Meyer (Indian Civil Service, recently appointed Finance Member of Governor-General's Council) not likely to be as prosperous as anticipated; thanks Crewe for sending him copies of the correspondence between Abrahams and Sir William Bisset (Chairman of several Indian Railway Companies).
