Cultivation of senna in the Deccan

Correspondence, mainly between the Revenue Department and the Medical Board of the Government of Bombay, re the proposal by Alexander Gibson, Superintendent of Dapuri Botanic Garden, to encourage the cultivation of senna in the Deccan. Gibson proposes that, as an incentive to cultivators to produce the crop, Government guarantee to purchase the senna for three years. After investigation into costs, Government agrees to guarantee the purchase to the extent of 500 rupees per annum for three years. Any senna not supplied to the medical stores to be sold on behalf of Government by Dr Gibson.
