The correspondence is concerned with the proposed construction of a new Police Hospital, and the temporary arrangements for mitigating some of the worst faults and defects of the current Hospital.
Included is correspondence regarding the case of Mrs Keith, a European woman formerly resident at Benares who had become insane and had been left in the Calcutta Police Hospital. In detailing her case, the correspondence also gives accounts of the general condition of the Hospital.
The collection includes a copy of the Public letter received from India, No.26 of 1865, dated 18 March 1865.
