The collection contains the following papers:
- Notification of the arrival in Calcutta of Sir John Lawrence to assume the Office of Viceroy and Governor General of India
- Special Narrative No.1 of the Proceedings of the Government of Bengal, dated 19th January 1864, regarding the engagement of passage to England for six insane patients on board the ship Winchester. The names of the patients were Peter Finn, Charles Givin, Neat Ladd, C E Cole, Richard Southcott, and Edward Hall. Statements of the cases of the patients are included in the collection.
- Grant of a leave of absence on Medical Certificate to Mr Harington for a period of six months
- Communication from the Government of India to the Government of Queensland stating its intention to authorise the emigration of Natives of India to that Colony as of the 1st July 1864
- Appointment of G N Taylor as a Provisional Member of the Council of the Governor General of India
- Correspondence regarding a proposal made by the French Government for the extension of the operations of their Emigration Agents to all the territories in India open to emigration
- Special Narrative No.2 of the Proceedings of the Government of Bengal, dated 8th June 1864, regarding the engagement of a passage to England for six insane patients on board the ship Camperdown. The names of the patients were Peter Markivich, Michael Byron, Edwin Humfrey Burney, Patrick Ward, John Walshe, and John Adams. Statements of the cases of the patients are included in the collection.
- Report by the Government of India of the passing of Act XIII of 1864, for making Laws and Regulations. A copy of the Act is not present in the collection.
- Correspondence on the subject of the expense of returning sick and disabled Return Emigrants from the French Colonies to their homes within British India
- Report on the condition of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Calcutta, from 1st April 1863 to 1st April 1864, by T Anderson, Superintendent of the Botanic Gardens
- Correspondence regarding the proposed increase to the salary of the Clerk to Her Majesty's Justices of the Peace in the Bombay Presidency
- Correspondence regarding two Emigrants returned from Martinique by the ship le Nicolas Poussin, and who were to be sent to their villages at the expense of the French Government
- Survey Report of the Peninsular and Oriental Company's Steamer Candia
- Government of India Resolution, dated 5th October 1864, directing that from the 1st November 1864, and until further notice, the Council of the Governor General shall assemble at Calcutta
- Communications from the Directors General of the Post Office and Telegraphs in India furnishing information as to the time which it takes to communicate by Post and Telegraphic Messages between the several Presidency Towns, and between those towns and the principal stations throughout India
- Communication from the Government of Bombay reporting that the repairs recommended to be done to the Mail Packet Candia had been completed in a satisfactory manner
- Letter from the Government of India, Home Department, regarding a remonstrance reported to be in preparation by the Native population of Bombay against some apprehended aggressive movements on the part of Christian Missionaries
- Special Narrative No.3 of the Proceedings of the Government of Bengal, dated 7th July 1864, regarding the engagement of a passage to England for six insane patients on board the ship Commodore Perry in supersession of the arrangements previously made for their conveyance on board the ship Camperdown
- Correspondence regarding an Ordinance enacted by the Government of Ceylon for extending the contracts relating to the hire of labourers obtained in that Island from India from three to five years
