Psalter, illustrated with miniatures of the Life of Christ, and bas-de-page scenes with images from the bestiary, legends of saints, and other sources (including hunting scenes).
Descriptions:
f. 84r: Inscription by Henry Manners, 2nd earl of Rutland (1526 - 1563), courtier and soldier, arrested at the accession of Queen Mary in 1553: 'This boke was sume tyme [under erasure: the Erle of Rutelands], and it was his wil / that it shulde by successioun all way / go to the [under erasure: lande of Ruteland] or to / [partially erased: him that linyally succedis by reson / of inheritaunce in the seide lande’].
f. 84v: Miniatures of the Annunciation, and the Visitation. In niches at the sides are found (left to right and top to bottom): the Law (Synagogue) as a blindfolded woman, dropping two Tables of the Law; the Gospel (Church) as a woman, crowned and nimbed, holding a church and a chalice; a king; a king holding a church; Moses holding the two Tables of the Law; and an Evangelist holding the Gospels.
