The collection contains the following papers:
- Correspondence relating to a case in which some labourers when on their way to the Mauritius Emigration Depot were intercepted by a person in the employment of the Agents for Emigration to Bourbon, and were fraudulently conveyed to the Depot for that Colony
- Letter from the Government of India, Home Department, regarding the deputation of A M Dowleans to England as Special Agent at the Exhibition of 1862, on behalf of the Government of India, and all other contributors who do not specify any other person as their Agent
- Copy of the Rules and Orders for the Transaction of Business in the Council of the Governor General, dated 11th March 1862
- Arrival of the Earl of Elgin and Kincardine at Calcutta in Her Majesty's Steam Frigate Feroze, and his assumption of the position of Viceroy and Governor General of India
- Letter from the Government of India, Home Department, enclosing a communication from the Secretary to the Central Committee for the collection of Works of Industry and Art in Bengal relative to certain points noticed in a memorandum by Dr Forbes Watson. The enclosure was sent to Dr Watson.
- Correspondence regarding Urjoon Singh, late Rajah of Porahaut [Porahat]
- Correspondence regarding the great mortality which took place on board the Emigrant ship Clarendon on her voyage from Calcutta to Jamaica in March 1861, and the appointment of a Government Medical Officer to exercise a general supervision over the Emigration Depots, and examine the Emigrants before embarkation
- Letter from the Government of India, Home Department, enclosing a communication from the Government of Bengal submitting the final Report of the Calcutta Central Committee for the Collection of Works of Art and Industry for the Exhibition of 1862, and related correspondence. The enclosures were sent to Dr Forbes Watson.
- Special Narrative No.3 (Medical) of the Proceedings of the Government of Bengal, dated 28th March 1862, regarding the engagement of a passage to England for five insane patients on board the ship White Eagle, with related correspondence. The names of the patients were John Schofield, Samuel Macaulley, Charles Lancaster, William Schmidt and Walter Harding. Statements of the cases of the patients are included in the collection.
- Communication from the Government of Bengal, No.56, dated 24th March 1862, reporting the sufficiency of the measures adopted, or in course of adoption, for the prevention of abuses connected with the decoying of Emigrants recruited respectively for the English and French Colonies
- Appointment of Henry Byng Harington as a temporary Ordinary Member of the Council of the Governor General of India
- Appointment of Cecil Beadon to be Lieutenant Governor of the Bengal Division of the Presidency of Fort William, from the 23rd April 1862, in succession to Sir John Peter Grant who resigned
- Appointment of William Grey, Secretary to the Government of India in the Home Department, to be a temporary Ordinary Member of the Council of the Governor General of India
- Special Narrative No.1 (Emigration) of the Proceedings of the Government of Bengal, dated 22nd April 1862, submitting an explanation from Captain C Eales, Protector of Emigrants at Calcutta, of his conduct in reference to the remarks made in the Secretary of State for India's Despatch No.137, dated the 23rd November 1861, relative to the malpractices of the Recruiters brought to light by Mr Beyts, the Special Commissioner from the Government of Mauritius
- Correspondence regarding the evils alleged to arise from the arrangement under which the duties of Emigration Agent and those of Recruiters for the Colony of Reunion were performed by Messrs Camin and Lamouroux at Calcutta, who were remunerated, not by a fixed salary, but by a fee of £3 for every Emigrant embarked, and who possessed the monopoly for the supply of labourers for the Colony
- Letter from the Government of India, Home Department, stating that H B Harington and W Grey had taken their seats as Ordinary Members of the Council of the Governor General of India on 13th June 1862
- Correspondence with the Board of Examiners at Calcutta, relative to an application for an extension of the usual period of study, submitted by William M Tidy, Junior Civil Servant, who had failed to pass in two languages within the full period of eighteen months allowed by the rules.
