The collection contains the following papers:
- Proceedings regarding the provision, at the expense of Government, of a suitable building for the residence of the Lieutenant Governor of the North Western Provinces
- Correspondence on the subject of the mortality on board the Emigrant ships Scoresby and Gertrude on their voyage from Calcutta to Jamaica during the season 1861-1862
- Communication from the Government of India to the Government of Bengal on the subject of the compulsory introduction of side scuttles in ships conveying Emigrants from Calcutta
- Report by T Anderson, Officiating Superintendent, Calcutta Botanic Gardens, dated 6th August 1862, on the cultivation of the Quiniferous Cinchona in British Sikkim, from the 24th March to the 1st August 1862, with related correspondence
- Correspondence relating to the rank of Precedence of the Judges of the Sudder Court in the North Western Provinces
- Papers giving information in the case of two Natives of India, Shaik Noor Mahomed and Francis Cretelle, Inmates of the Strangers' Home for Asiatics in London, who represented that they had been engaged to accompany Emigrants from Calcutta to Demerara, but that owing to the loss of their Agreements, they were refused a return passage from London to their Native country
- Correspondence relative to the grant to H D Willock, of the Bengal Civil Service, of the privilege of taking his annuity and furlough a year sooner than he would otherwise be entitled to do, in consideration of his services in the Lucknow Garrison in 1857
- Notification of the arrival at Calcutta of Henry Sumner Maine by the Peninsular and Oriental Company's Steamer Candia, to take his seat as an Ordinary Member of the Council of the Governor General of India
- Special Narrative No.2 (Emigration) of the Proceedings of the Government of Bengal, dated 28th November 1862, transmitting copies of Agreements entered into with interpreters, topasses and others proceeding with Emigrants on the Clarence and Alnwick Castle to British Guiana and Trinidad respectively. The collection contains copies of agreements with John Samuel Spiers, John Pitt, Ahamud, James William Scott, Fokeer Mahomed, Charles Turner, Charles Josiah Nixon, Antoney, John DeCruz and Jacob Miller.
- Application by H Scott Smith, late Secretary to the Record Committee, on sick leave in Europe, for permission to have access to the Muniment Room of the India Office
- Correspondence relative to the suggestion made by the Directors of the Strangers' Home for Asiatics that all individuals engaged for a foreign voyage should, previously to embarkation from any Port in India, be required to enter into an agreement with their employers, similar to that in the case of lascars, for a free return passage to India
- Copy of the Post Office letter received from India, No.3 of 1862, dated 3 September 1862, stating that Tenders were invited by Notification in the Calcutta Government Gazette, and in the Gazette of the Madras Presidency, for the conveyance of Her Majesty's Mails between Aden and Bombay; but that no Tenders were submitted to Government up to the 1st September 1862, the latest date allowed
- Letter from G Paton, Director General of the Post Office of India, to E C Bayley, Secretary to the Government of India, dated 1st September 1862, regarding the arrangements proposed by the French Post Office, in anticipation of the commencement of the new lines of Postal Service by the Messageries Imperiales monthly between Marseilles and Alexandria, and between Suez and India and China
- Communication from the Government of India to the Government of Bombay on the subject of a Memorial from the Kurrachee [Karachi] Chamber of Commerce relative to the conveyance of Mails direct from Karachi to Suez
- Correspondence showing the arrangements that had been sanctioned for the disposal of the Mails by the French Mail Packets
